She kicked off her career as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley\, navigating the fast-paced world of finance with finesse. Her return to Turkey saw her rise through the ranks at Citibank\, where she honed her skills as a senior manager. \nIn 1999\, Köksal took a bold leap into the world of private equity with AIG\, before making a game-changing move to Galatasaray Sports Club in 2001. As CFO\, and later CEO\, she steered the club through a transformative era of growth and international success. \nKöksal’s influence extended beyond Turkey when she was appointed General Secretary of the Turkish Football Federation in 2011. Her expertise was sought after by FIFA and UEFA\, where she served as a consultant from 2012 to 2018. She returned to Galatasaray as a Board Member\, continuing to shape the future of football. \nToday\, Ebru Köksal is a Board Member and Business Development Director at J Stern & Co.\, Chair of Women in Football\, UK\, Board Director at A-Leagues Australia\, INED at the Professional Footballers Association UK\, and an INED at the International Tennis Integrity Agency. She is the founder and chair of Etkiyap\, Türkiye’s first and foremost impact investment platform. Additionally\, she serves as the chair of the National Advisory Board on Impact Investing (EYDK)\, Türkiye’s representative in the Global Steering Group for Impact Investing (GSG Impact). EYDK unites institutions across public\, private\, non-profit\, and academic sectors\, fostering a thriving impact investment and sustainable finance ecosystem in Türkiye. \nWith a robust background in corporate and energy law\, Müderrisgil has spent years advising and serving on the boards of national and international organizations. Her legal expertise spans corporate governance\, energy law\, environmental law\, and public policy. Since 2014\, she has dedicated herself to academic and professional initiatives that leverage impact investing as a catalyst for sustainability in diverse sectors. \nMüderrisgil’s career began at the global law firm White & Case\, after which she evolved into a prominent angel investor and venture philanthropist. She is a World Fellow of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Foundation (since 2019)\, a member of the Advisory Board for the Chair in Contemporary Turkish Studies at the London School of Economics\, and Vice President of the Energy Efficiency Association in Türkiye. In 2021\, she was honored by the European Network for Social Enterprises and Impact-Driven Leaders as one of the “Top Women in Social Enterprise.” In January 2023\, she received the “Sustainability Leader” award for her groundbreaking work in advancing Türkiye’s impact investing ecosystem. \n\nZeynep Gül Onay Ene \nBorn in 1969 in Istanbul\, Zeynep Gül Onay Ene graduated from Galatasaray High School and Boğaziçi University with a degree in Political Science and International Relations. As the captain of Galatasaray’s basketball team\, she led her team to 10 Turkish Championship titles\, Turkish Cups\, and Presidential Cups\, which now reside in the Galatasaray Museum. She proudly represented Turkey 54 times in national competitions. \nDue to injuries\, her basketball playing career ended earlier than expected\, leading her to coaching youth teams and national junior basketball teams. Between 2007 and 2012\, she served as Director of Grassroots Development at the Turkish Football Federation. From 2017 to 2018\, she worked as the manager of the Turkish Women’s National Basketball Team\, and between 2018 and 2021\, she dedicated herself to youth development and the future of Turkish women’s basketball as the Director of the Girls’ National Basketball Teams (ages 14–20). In the 2021–22 season\, she held the role of Director of Galatasaray Women’s Basketball. \nShe translated the book “Basketball for Young Players” and continues to mentor young athletes and coaches. She is currently engaged in coaching children aged 6–14 at a basketball academy. Additionally\, she is working on a project to establish a basketball club in Bursa\, providing talented girls with the opportunity to play despite limited local resources. \nShe strongly believes that sports provide children and young people with a platform to channel their energy\, express themselves\, and unlock their potential. She enjoys spending time in nature\, taking long walks\, caring for animals\, working with soil and plants\, and continuously learning through reading. Above all\, she is passionate about sailing and being on the water. Traveling to new places and creating lasting memories are among her greatest joys.

Rain graced every corner of Türkiye\, and we embraced the scent of nature as a blessing… As we got soaked\, we found ourselves calming down\, listening\, and trying to understand. And the sun did shine—it gifted us with beautiful moments that made us rejoice like children. \nBetween April 5-7\, 2025\, during our cultural journey\, we traveled through layers of history\, witnessing how the past and present intertwine at every stop. Once again\, we realized that there is nothing left unexperienced on this land—from love to hatred\, from grandeur to poverty\, from revival to disappearance… We embarked on a timeless journey through civilizations. \nUnderstanding today requires a journey into the past. For our friends who could not join us\, I am sharing a brief overview of our route and the magnificent ancient cities we visited. You can find the visuals on our website\, Instagram\, and LinkedIn. \nEphesus – The Breath of Rome in Anatolia \nWith a history spanning approximately 7\,000 years\, Ephesus was one of the greatest metropolises of the ancient world. The Temple of Artemis\, the Library of Celsus\, the Ancient Theater\, the Temple of Hadrian\, and the Prytaneion reveal not only architectural mastery but also significant aspects of religious and social life. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site\, every step we took in this mesmerizing city felt like traveling through time. \nPriene – The Miracle City with a Grid Plan \nDesigned using the “grid city plan” developed by Milesian architect Hippodamus\, Priene is one of the masterpieces of ancient urban planning. With its Temple of Athena\, theater\, and agora\, this serene city reminded us of both architectural aesthetics and the philosophical foundations of civilization. \nMiletus – The Land of Philosophers \nHome to great minds such as Thales\, Anaximander\, and Hecataeus\, Miletus was not only a port city but also a hub for thinkers seeking to understand the universe. The ancient theater and agora ruins still carry the echoes of intellectual pursuits. \nDidyma – The Voice of Prophecy \nFamous for the Temple of Apollo\, Didyma was the second-largest oracle center of the ancient world. Walking among its colossal columns\, we felt the magnificence of its architecture and the deep-rooted presence of prophecy and divination. \nAphrodisias – Beauty Carved in Stone \nDedicated to the goddess of love\, Aphrodite\, this city was an extraordinary art center\, featuring a grand stadium\, a theater\, and the impressive Sebasteion complex. Aphrodisias was captivating not only for its architecture but also for its intricate stone craftsmanship. However\, one of the most touching moments of our journey was seeing our esteemed member Aldo Kazlowski honored on the plaque at the entrance of the Sebasteion complex\, acknowledging his valuable contributions to its restoration. We extend our heartfelt gratitude and respect for his dedication to preserving history. \nHierapolis & Pamukkale – A Convergence of Healing and Faith \nThis sacred city\, where Saint Philip was martyred\, was a renowned healing center in ancient times\, thanks to its thermal springs. The Temple of Apollo\, the Roman Theater\, the extensive necropolis\, and ancient baths\, alongside Pamukkale’s white travertines\, continue to carry the traces of the past. \nŞirince & Nesin Village – A Breath Beyond Time \nWith its still-living village atmosphere\, Şirince and Nesin Village—dedicated to science\, art\, and philosophy—became the spiritual highlights of our journey. Seeing modern thought seamlessly intertwine with Anatolian heritage was truly inspiring. \nTo all our friends who couldn’t be with us but were present in spirit\, we send our warmest regards. DESCRIPTION:Sedef Ayhan \nManaging Director\, East Mediterranean Area at A.P. Moller – Maersk \nSedef Ayhan was born in 1978. She joined Maersk in 2001. \nSedef has spent all her professional career with Maersk\, where she joined as a management trainee and took various operational and commercial roles in Copenhagen\, Genoa and İstanbul. Since 2017\, Sedef has been the Managing Director of Maersk in East Mediterranean Region covering16 countries including Turkey\, Egypt\, Israel\, Lebanon\, Ukraine\, Romania\, Bulgaria and Georgia. \nSedef is Turkish and has an 8-year-old daughter. She graduated from Üsküdar American Academy (Üsküdar Amerikan Lisesi) and holds a BA degree in Economics from Koç University. \n  \n \nAycan Koç \nI was born on June 4\, 2002\, in Istanbul\, where my journey into medicine began. I attended Burak Bora Anatolian High School\, excelling in my studies\, which laid the foundation for my acceptance into Istanbul University’s Faculty of Medicine ranking first in my year. Driven by my passion for neuroscience\, I have focused my education on understanding the complexities of the human brain\, with the goal of becoming a neurologist \nThanks to opportunities that were made possible with the support of the Türk Üniversiteli Kadınlar Derneği\, which I joined during my second year at university I had the chance to pursue my dreams\, and my recent internships have been pivotal in shaping my career aspirations. At UC San Diego’s Daneman Lab\, I conducted research on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)\, mastering techniques like immunostaining and microscopy\, and gaining hands-on experience in animal experiments. Additionally\, my observership at Rhode Island Hospital allowed me to immerse myself in the U.S. clinical environment\, learning from experienced medical professionals. \nBack home\, I have been actively involved in research at Istanbul University’s Neuroimmunology Clinic\, where I study the effects of treatment discontinuation in Multiple Sclerosis. These experiences have deepened my commitment to advancing neurological research and patient care on an international stage.

He earned his PhD in classical archaeology from Munich in 1996\, following studies at Bonn\, Cologne\, Munich\, and Cambridge. His early career involved working as a research assistant at the Rome branch of the DAI and as an assistant professor at Leipzig University. \nPirson’s research focuses on ancient urbanism\, the spatial organization of ancient cities\, domestic architecture\, the archaeology of the Vesuvian cities (like Pompeii and Herculaneum)\, and the ancient city of Pergamon in modern-day Turkey. He also explores ancient relief sculptures\, particularly those depicting war and violence. \nIn addition to his role at DAI\, Pirson is a visiting scholar and senior fellow at various institutions\, including the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University (ISAW). He has held guest professorships\, including at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris\, and teaches at Istanbul Technical University and Leipzig University\, where he became an honorary professor in 2010. \nThroughout his career\, Pirson has contributed to several important archaeological publications and is involved in editorial activities for multiple academic journals \nAbout Pergamon \nThe Pergamon Excavations\, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Felix Pirson\, have revealed a city that was once one of the most significant cultural and political centers of the Hellenistic world. Nestled high on a dramatic hillside in modern-day Turkey\, Pergamon flourished as a major metropolis during the Attalid dynasty\, blending stunning architecture with artistic grandeur. \nThe excavation site itself is a vivid tableau of history\, revealing layers of urban life over centuries. Among the most remarkable finds are the massive Altar of Zeus\, with its intricate friezes depicting the battle between gods and giants\, and the towering theater carved into the steep slopes of the acropolis\, offering sweeping views over the surrounding valleys. Walking through the ruins\, you can imagine the once-bustling agora\, where citizens engaged in trade and debate\, and the monumental temples dedicated to Athena and Dionysus\, which showcase Pergamon’s devotion to the gods. \nPergamon is also celebrated for its vast library\, said to have been second only to Alexandria’s\, housing thousands of scrolls that attracted scholars from all over the Mediterranean. The site reflects the intersection of Greek\, Roman\, and Eastern influences\, seen in the blend of architectural styles and urban planning. The ongoing excavations continue to unearth details about daily life\, urban development\, and the complex socio-political fabric of this ancient city.
